Creating Art with Talent

In Webster's Dictionary, the word "artist" is described as: (a) one who professes and practices an imaginative art (b) a person skilled in one of the fine arts; a skilled performer. Description also includes one skilled or versed in learned arts and one who is adept at deception. Additional research finds a skilled adept public performer such as a musical or theatrical entertainer. Artistry is defined as an artistic quality of effect or workmanship, such as an accomplished violinist or lawyer. This would indicate the art proverb of "Art is Long ~ Life is Short" has a great deal of truth and in fact, we are surrounded by artists with extraordinary talents.

When the average person thinks of "art" the thought is of a painting, but in truth art comes in many forms with a variety far greater than works on canvas. The pages within our category of "Artists" may be interesting, but more is to come in the near future, including an individual who creates art from discarded vehicle license plates into beautiful bird houses. Indeed, artists must have creativity in order to satisfy their goal and quite often this can be a rather amazing entrepreneur who is just "playing" with blocks of plastic or wood and suddenly strikes gold with a unique object of art. The punch line is "never allow the wheels in your brain to stop spinning" because hidden somewhere, every one of us has creativity that can be turned into a form of art. We welcome our members to share their talents.

"Celebrity Pumpkin Display"

A public viewing held during the month of October 2003, by Office Depot in Clarksville, Tennessee, offered a Celebrity Pumpkin Display. This unique art show of bright orange pumpkins was originated by Store Manager Darrell Lane and was by far one of the safest ways to celebrate the season. Children and adults visited the pumpkins, to the delight of everyone, throughout the month of October. The pumpkins were a wonderful display of artistic work by more than a half dozen employees of Office Depot on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard, bringing together characters and people for the enjoyment of all ages. The nicest thing was Office Depot donated the pumpkins to Gateway Hospital at the Children's Ward. It was an extraordinary and sincere out-reach to the community of Clarksville! And a great way to celebrate the beginning of fall!

There are no words to express except, "ahhh's and "oh's", for the delightful scene greeting young and old as they entered this Clarksville office supply store. There are not enough words or compliments to give Darrel Lane for his approach to complimenting the community as well as his employees for the effort that was put to task for the benefit of everyone.

Military Pride!
Dora & Boots
The Hulk

While there were many celebrities, the most important celebrity of all was the Store Manager, Darrell Lane, who came up with this wonderful idea. Not only did Darrell Lane and his team provide a safe and educational journey for people of all ages but it increased store business and added to the community with a genuine display of kindness.

Close-up of black and white Husky canine showing only his face

A flying insect resembling a Hummingbird caught drinking sap from small flowers The Husky (above) peeks around the corner from bottom of a screen door Close up of interesting golden mushroom among fallen autumn leaves

Left to right: Meg captures a flying insect resembling a Hummingbird drinking sap from small flowers, then turns to capture the Husky peeking around the corner from the bottom of a screen door. Her search for interesting subjects led to a strange mushroom leaning over to its side in a midst of fallan golden leaves in the grass.

An object with colored beads sitting on green leaves sandwiched between brown and whitle layers A close-up of the same object The object becomes reality of a cookie Christimas tree topped with a yellow candy star

Left to right: Meg's search during Christmas (while totting a new camera) became an inside project while snow continued to fall. From the eyes of a budding photographer, Meg decided to capture scenes leading to the above Cookie Christmas Tree, but the best scene may have been taken the morning after:

Man sitting in chair holding cup on his lap with head bowed.

Meg's interest in photography began during 2007 and she is currently taking photography as one of her selective subjects with school.
