A Resource for Education and Unity

© June 2007

Travel is one of our largest resources for awareness and education on a variety of topics that may interest an individual. This resource could be as close as a computer, the nearest library, or as far as circling the entire globe, though there may be many people who cannot travel or wheel into an experience, there are means of which a person can still obtain the experience. "By the time I've completed my research, if I miss going on the trip, I already feel like I've been there anyway." (Member, San Antonio, TX)

There is no oddity with a person using a wheelchair, electric scooter or power wheelchair who obtains the same ability as an individual walking to arrive at a destination. Acceptance of persons with disabilities creates unity in society and enhances education with visibility. The determination of persons with disabilities willing to engage in society is commendable because not only is determination required to meet this goal; there is stamina, willingness, and the desire to persevere. The same holds true for any individual who is elderly or has any form of disability, (whether visible or not).

Many people believe the name of this website and non-profit organization has only to do with "wheels" on a chair to rotate from one place to another, but this is a fallacy because in truth "wheeling" is in fact rotation whether using a wheelchair or not. Travel happens through rotation of wheels whether using a privately owned automobile, van, bus, train or taxi to arrive at one destination or another to begin an experience of "travel".

When thinking about it, life is a continuous "cycle" because we live by rotation of the planet providing our world. Many of us must live by the rotation of the wheel, depending on wheels for transportation, and on wheels instead of legs for walking. Acceptance of persons in society with disabilities encourages accessibility on a national and global level, and permits education and awareness for millions of people who could someday find themselves in a similar situation.

Web pages in this section address a variety of issues and topics bringing awareness and solutions to potential problems centered on travel. The web pages are similar to planning for travel, considering options, and placing expectations on a realistic level. Children fall of swings and scrape their knees; but return to the swing once the cry has passed. As adults, we must remember what we learned as children and continue to get back up on the swing.
